Following a successful release of the recyclable FREITAG F385 cases for the iPhone® 11 and 12 series, we were given the opportunity to design the cases for iPhone® 13 and 14. In total, there are seven different versions, three for the iPhone® 13 generation and four for the iPhone® 14 generation.

The key element of the design is an ingenious parametric master CAD model, from which the individual versions can be derived with minimal effort. The CAD model incorporates all production-relevant details such as draft angles as well as considerations regarding tolerances and fits to the smartphones. It also includes some special features resulting from the use of special recycled material: a reprocessed TPU obtained from used ski boots.

Based on discussions with Pfister Werkzeugbau and FREITAG, Tribecraft develops design adjustments to the case, whose basic design comes from FREITAG. This allows alternative, less complicated demouldings in the tools. Necessary modifications to the product in detail, whose necessity only became apparent during the design of the injection moulds at Pfister Werkzeugbau, are applied to all models with little effort thanks to the modelling strategy.
